HAVE I GOT NEWS FOR YOU...

I no longer maintain a Scottish education news service, because there's no point in competing with what's provided by the BBC right here. You can also catch up on the past week's education news courtesy of the Guardian if you follow this link.

MENTIONED IN DISPATCHES. What Schoolzone say (January 2000)

"Congratulations on your site The Scottish Primary School Page has been awarded a Highly Commended rating by Schoolzone's panel of 250 expert teachers. It is included in our searchable database of educational web sites. This is what we say about it: A fund of information about all aspects of Education in Scotland. Parents and Teachers from all over the U.K. will find the information, resources and links on this site invaluable."

MENTIONED IN DISPATCHES. According to the Guardian (Education 20th May 1997)

"Teachers and parents can now swot up on everything they ever wanted to know about Scottish primary schools at the Scottish Primary School Page. This site is packed with information on the curriculum, teaching and learning approaches, the Parents Charter for Scotland and Scottish school boards, and there are useful links to further resources on the Internet".

AND ANOTHER THING... A quick guide to a few sources:

Newspapers: Most of the good ones have a presence on the internet these days, but none are as good as the Electronic Telegraph. Take a look and judge for yourself. They provide an excellent "search" facility for trawling the archives too.

Newsgroups: These are a bit of a mixed bag, but can be a good way of engaging in debate or finding people who can tell you everything you ever wanted to know (and more besides) about... well, almost anything really. Try uk.education.misc or uk.education.teachers or uk.education.schools-it for instance. But be prepared to post something to the group if you want to get the most out of it.

Mailing lists: A kind of "lazy man's alternative" to the newsgroups, where the contributions turn up in your email. Great for those who like to use the "delete" function in their email package. But much better than newsgroups if you join a list with a few lively and intelligent contributors willing to discuss things that interest you. Click here if you want to find out how to join a mailing list on school management. And let me know of any others. The Scottish School Board Association is also now online. Take a look.

Compuserve: No, I'm not employed by them, and I haven't been paid to say this, but if you have an account with them already, you can access the UK Education Forum (GO UKEDUCATION) or generally hang around in their so-called Education Community (GO EDUCATION).
